Kite flying is a world popular sport that has evolved over the decades resulting in changes into modernized patterns and materials. Nowadays, the features of a kite has a beautifully bigger structure and adopted modern technology in its production, which brings in a variety of forms and structures and methods of flying; as such, it creates a spectacle to the audience. It is believed that the invention of kite dates back to 400 B.C. with the purpose of pleasure and certain usefulness. From an academic chronicle, it was found that a Chinese engineer named Kungshu Pan (Lu Ban) built a wooden bird, which could fly in the sky for 3 days; therefore, it was assumed as the world’s first kite.
In Thailand, kite flying has been long popular since the Sukhothai and Ayutthaya periods among the royalty as well as ordinary people. However, the Royal Household’s law forbade that no one could fly a kite over the palace; otherwise, punishment by law would be enforced. The Chula-Pakpao kites were created in the Ayutthaya period and the competition had been held until the Rattanakhosin period. King Rama ll was fond of Chula kite fighting with the Pakpao kite of his brother. Westerners compared the Chula kite as a male and Pakpao kite as a female, which was similar to the Thai social value in that period that males dominated female. Kite flying was also the most popular sport in king Rama IV, kite flying at Sanam Luang inside the Dusit Palace, and had a kite flying competition held at Dusit Palace in 1856, where he presided over himself. In the reign of King Rama VI, kite flying was restored as a sport and Phraya Phirom PhaKdi organized a kite flying competition at Sanam Luang. After World was II, the Siam Sport Club held an annual kite flying competition.
The tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) first held the Thailand International Kite Festival in 1989 and has continuously held the event in many arenas ; such as, the seashore of Pattaya, Chon Buri, the grounds of the Bang sai Royal Folk Arts and Crafts Centre, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Sanam Luang, Bangkok, Mueang Thong Thani Sports Complex, Nonthaburi, The 16th Infantry, Suriyothai camp, Prachup Khiri Khan, and Naresuan Camp, Phetchaburi, until now. In 2010 TAT in cooperation with Phetchaburi province, Naresuan Camp, Phra Ram VI Camp, the Thai Sports World under Royal Patronage, Bangkok Metropolitan Adminitration, Thailand kite fliers Association, and Sanook Sky Kite Flyer Club will hold the 11th Thailand International Kite Festival during 13-14 March 2010, at Amphoe Cha–am, Phetchaburi. This province has been considered to be a well-equipped potential tourist destination and capable of organizing sports for tourism activities which draw more visitors into the area.

In Muay Thai, the boxer will always preface the fight with Wai Kru and this tradition is still practised nowadays. This ceremony is usually performed to rousing Thai music from pipes and drums, and with the initial Ram Muay (the boxing movement). The Wai Kru & Ram Muay are useful, since the Boxer gains encouragement from paying homage to his Teachers and feels that he is not on his own: he has his Teacher & the other Teachers of the Muay Thai discipline to support him.
The Wai Kru process will also give him time to concentrate & revise what he has learned, as well as display the nature of his weapons and the high degree of his skill. The steps, movements & use of his weapons are designed to warm up the body’s muscles, survey the field of play & conceal the contestant’s style of fighting.
When the traditional Sarama music sounds around the ring it is recognised by all who are present as a symbol of deference & respect. Prior to the fight, the music helps to urge the fighter on, and rouses his spirit until he is ready to face his opponent in the boxing ring in manly combat.

The grand Pattaya Music Festival is back in town to entertain music lovers. This is an unrivalled opportunity to enjoy a weekend of listening and dancing to beautiful music performed by more than 100 musicians. Fun awaits everyone, on March.
According to Pattaya’s city hall it was revived to lighten the mood to give residents and tourists all the more reason to smile and enjoy the resort.
The event is also part of a wider nation-wide campaign “Amazing Thailand Amazing Value” managed by the Tourism Authority of Thailand to deliver events and value-for-money features to Thai and international travellers.
For music lovers it will certainly enhance their holiday and will also help to turn Pattaya into a musical paradise broadening its appeal.
The event is supported by well-known music companies such as GMM Grammy and its partners Modernine TV, Channel [V] Thailand, Channel [V] International and the Korea Foundation for International Exchange.
International musicians will be flown in by recording companies such as SM Entertainment from Korea, EEG from Hong Kong, Ocean Butterfly from China, House of Indies from Vietnam, Halo Music from Malaysia, AMPHEAD from Australia, INDEE RECORDS from Laos, and AVEX from Taiwan.
Visitors can choose their own style of music too. Are you into Pop, Hip-Hop, R&B, or Rock musicω The event features three music stages located at the Bali Hai pier at the southern end of the main bay, central Pattaya, and Pattaya Soi 4. Music themes will rotate between all three stages.
On Friday, visitors can enjoy Pop songs at the Bali Hai, Rock at central Pattaya and easy listening music at Soi 4. On Saturday, Pop and Rock will be performed at the Bali Hai stage, Hip-Hop at central Pattaya, and Jazz at Soi 4, while on Sunday, visitors can enjoy Rock at Bali Hai, Country Western music at central Pattaya, and Pop Rock at Soi 4.
International artists from Korea, China, Australia, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Hong Kong will also join the event.
TAT is responsible for two of the stages, one at the south Pattaya pier (Bali Hai) and one at Soi 4 on Pattaya beach road. The third stage in central Pattaya, is funded by a Bt10 million budget and run by Pattaya city and Chonburi Provincial Administrative Organisation.

Songkran (Thai New Year)

This national celebration of the tradition Thai New Year captures the imagination of travellers for both its cultural and fun attributes; the latter being enthusiastic bouts of water splashing between friends and relatives.
In Bangkok, the Songkran Grand Celebration will be held between 10 and 15 April around the Rattanakosin Island district, sometimes called “Old Bangkok.”
The main celebrations, in the capital, focus on bathing rites of replicas of revered Buddha images originating from various provinces in the North, South, East and central regions, interspersed with traditional food and dessert-making demonstrations and cultural performances. The opening ceremony will take place, 10 April, at Phra Chetupon Wimol Manklaram or the Temple of the Reclining Buddha.
